Take a moment to check in with yourself.

How’s it going today?

Are you excited to be at work, or are you relieved that it’s almost the weekend?

I recently conducted a small group workshop where we explored ways to increase job satisfaction. On a scale of one to ten, with ten being in love with their job, the whole group was hovering around a five.

A five.

That’s pretty low—and it’s low enough for these folks to start looking for a new job.

Each participant identified and then scored key components of their job, things like whether their work was challenging, compensation, recognition, and career advancement. It was apparent that the low overall score was being driven by a very low score in just one area. For example, general satisfaction with compensation and recognition could be overshadowed by a rating work engagement low.

If you’re in a slump, take just a few minutes and dig into the details. What part of your job is especially difficult? And if that’s not obvious, take this short quiz and find out what aspect of your career you need to fix in order to Love Mondays Again.

Focusing your efforts on crafting your current job to serve you may save you from a job search. And the knowledge you gain about what you need to love your job is vital information. Even if you ultimately decide to leave, at least you’ll know what’s important to you in your next job. The quiz takes just a few minutes and it’s free.
